In this letter, a numerical analysis of light propagation in photonic crystal fibers infiltrated with liquid crystals is presented. Our simulations, based on the finite difference beam propagation method, revealed the importance of space discretization in numerical algorithms applied. At the conclusion, a triangular discrete mesh is shown as better numerical representation when compared to the standard square grid used for modeling photonic crystal fibers with hexagonal symmetry.Full Text: PDF
